Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated part-time Foot Care Nurse (RPN/RN) to provide professional, client-focused foot care services to individuals in the Durham Region. The Foot Care Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients with foot-related health issues in clinic settings, retirement homes, Long Term Care homes, and/or clients’ private homes. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of foot conditions, with an emphasis on preventing complications and improving patient outcomes.
This is a contract position for a motivated nurse who will supply their own podiatry tools, and ensure Infection Prevention and Control Practices and Standards. Foot care clinics are offered across the Durham Region to support individuals who need assistance with foot care due to vision impairments, mobility challenges, or diabetes. These clinics aim to provide basic and advanced foot care to Qualicare clients while also providing awareness regarding proper footwear, foot hygiene and recognition of potential problems, as well as encouraging clients to seek further treatment from their physician, podiatrist, or chiropodist for issues that fall outside the nurse’s or clinic’s scope of practice.

Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive foot care services, including assessment, treatment, and ongoing maintenance for clients with various foot conditions such as corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, and fungal infections.
- Provide specialized care for individuals with diabetes, circulatory issues, and other conditions requiring advanced foot care management.
- Educate clients on proper foot hygiene, prevention strategies, and self-care practices.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, documenting assessments, treatments, and care plans.
- Adhere to infection control protocols, ensuring all instruments are appropriately cleaned, sterilized, and stored.
- Manage appointment scheduling, ensuring punctual and professional service delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals as needed to support client care.
- Follow all relevant standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and Ontario health regulations.

Requirements:

Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Certified in Advanced and Diabetic Foot Care by a recognized certification program.
- Current Professional Liability Insurance.
- Ability to supply and maintain personal foot care equipment, including appropriate sterilization methods (e.g., autoclave or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of infection control practices and sterile technique.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a client-centered approach.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain professional boundaries.
- Valid G driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel throughout the Durham Region to community clinics, retirement homes, LTC homes and/or private homes.
